The Pacific Health Research and Education Institute is an independent, non-profit 501(c)(3) research institute founded in 1960 to conduct collaborative, multi-institutional health research.  Located in central Honolulu, PHREI is in close proximity to Hawaii’s major medical centers, the University of Hawaii, and the University’s John A. Burns School of Medicine.  More than 500 research projects have been conducted by PHREI including epidemiology studies, clinical trials and health services research.  Areas of interest include PTSD, diabetes, cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, aging, telehealth, and healthcare delivery.
